After a long and strenuous season, it has finally come to an end as we crown the Calder Cup Champions of season 14. This season you have a team who barely made the playoffs come out on top and the runner up was a team that was at the bottom of the league in season 13. Cleveland was the cinderella story this year coming from the bottom all the way to the Calder Cup Finals. But as they say, not all stories have a happy ending as they were bested in the finals and had their dream crushed.
In the playoffs you had 3 out of the 4 #1 ranked teams make it to the conference finals with the two best teams from the regular season battling each other for the cup. This itself is a rare occurrence because its rare that both Conference winners make the finals with all the upsets that usually take place.
The playoffs started out easy for the eventually cup champs having won the 1st round 4-1 and then sweeping the second round. Then things got harder, in the conference finals they were taken to 6 games winning game 6 with a blowout of 7-3. Then they faced off against Cleveland and their season was put in jeopardy right from the start losing the first two games putting them in a 0T-2 hole. They came out strong for game 3 winning 4-1 but then had to squeak by with a 5-4 OT win to tie the series at 2. After that win the team got its confidence back and proceeded to win the next two games 4-1 and 4-0.
Ladies and Gentleman, I would like to introduce you to your season 14 Calder Cup Champions, the Manitoba Moose.
