Welcome to the VGKHL Post-Draft rankings where I will be going through each team and putting them into a category. The KHL draft was very interesting to say the least in my opinion. A few players dropped too far, a few players were taken way too high and some teams I thought just did terrible in the draft. I will not be including any random assignments into this article, this is purely based off of the draft.
I don’t know anything about this team. I know tekniks are average but even looking at the numbers for some of these guys, I don’t understand any of the picks. I know they’re all friends and play together so hopefully the chemistry is there to help them win a few games.
Another team I know nothing about. I haven’t seen any of them play except firefigher who’s an average NHL dman. A lot of these players are from xbox so we’ll see how they transition over to PS4. I think they all also play together so maybe that’ll help. Hopefully they get lucky with random assignments (hint they did).
Harry_tattas and castrogstar did not have a good draft in my opinion. Drafting snake_pliskin so early was a mistake. He is a solid player, but I think he would have been there in the second round and SC Bern could have taken a different player. Scarface has managed in the past and might be able to provide some good locker room presence and some help on the ice, but I don’t think it will be enough as the management duo of Castro and Harry is not that outstanding to me.
Middle of the Pack
Arpineoq is a fine manager and is trying his talents in the KHL at managing. He didn’t have a terrible draft, drafting blades59 who I know is a very solid player and is capable of carrying an offence in the KHL. Arpine and Just_heinzy aren’t the worst management duo in the world and should be able to pull off a few trades to better their roster. I think Crazy Clown is also a very solid forward and should be able to make this team about a middle of the pack. They’re a few moves away from being playoff contenders.
I’ll be honest, I know almost nothing about this team. Sheep has had past experience managing, but I can’t really say much about them. Their first round pick, Vain has actually had very good numbers in his VG career. He had a 3.21 points per game in season 18 in the AHL then stepped up to the NHL for Carolina and had 2.56 points per game, so that doesn’t seem like too bad of a pick. He’ll need to carry the offence for Lukko and prove that he can be the main guy on a line. Cpenn has had very good numbers in the AHL, having 174 points in 39 games. These 2 will be looking to make an impression before heading back to North America.
IFK Helsinki was the lucky team to get first overall in the draft, and in my opinion, they hit on it. Drafting whitetees who I think is the best player in the draft or at the very least second best with scy in the mix. Whitetees can carry the team offensively, and with the 2nd round pick they had, they gave him another dynamic forward. VG veteran riseoftheninja joins whitetees on forward to give Helsinki a great 1-2 punch at forward. WIth I think kidmoney centering them, these 3 forwards should have no problem scoring goals. Where I see issues is where the defence is going to come from as I don’t really see any defenders here ready for a 7 game series against some of the best forwards in the league. Budz might be an average defender, but I don’t see him being able to stop some of the top forwards KHL has to offer. Maybe some random assignments will help these guys out.
The Berlin Blues selected j_sherminator with the second overall pick in the draft. This is a hard pick to grade as sherminator is coming off of a tremendous playoff run with the VG Penguins and was a dynamic goal scorer for the team. He’ll be able to put the puck in the net, but he’ll need a capable center to help get him the puck
Kylej83, as much as it pains me to say it, is probably the best defencemen out of all the owners. Also coming off of a playoff run with the VG Penguins, Kyle will be able to lock down the right or left side of the ice by himself. He then selected pucku33, who has multiple Stanley Cup rings to his name. I’d give this team the best 1-2 punch for defence out of the entire league, and that is what makes them a playoff contender. Smokeshowjoe is a good centerpiece to a forward line, but they’re going to need more help on forward if they want to score goals, however Airblaster is a good start.
Led by mclub and ransom, this team already had the best management duo going into the draft. These 2 are by far the most skilled managers of any of the other teams and they had the best draft out of every team, despite only drafting 7th overall. With their first round pick, they ended up selecting Scy-93, who if the draft was based on skill alone, would have went first overall. However, his attitude would have been terrible for just about every team except this one, so mclub was able to pick him up. The rest of the roster is just icing on the cake, adding Dudnasty, a very good forward or defender, TheDrixMeister, a super defender in the making, Koticxgaming who’s a great goaltender and Jarrettszn, the best last round pick in the draft.
MLG-Owen and xShyne drafted a pretty good team and in my opinion, the second best team in the league. I don’t really think they’re on the level of Timra yet, but a few trades and a few lucky random assignments and they might stand a chance. Fluri37, while I may pick on him a lot, is still a decent center and a very good 9th overall pick, but he is better off being the support player on the line. Luckily for him, Adler drafted toslick and iyzcniZi. Toslick will find ways to score, even if it’s by methods others don’t like, but if it works, it works. IyzcniZi is an outstanding player who has yet to be discovered by a lot of players, but he in my opinion is the steal of the draft. What’s interesting is which 3 of these forwards will play left wing as none of them are natural left wingers. Chadkillz was the top goaltender in the draft and he has the ability to steal games, which is what Adler is going to need him to do if they want the cup.
That concludes my post-draft rankings. Some of these teams I really knew nothing about so hopefully they prove me wrong or get some random assignments to improve their team.
