Player of the Week: Week 4
Welcome to the fourth edition of VGHL’s Season 21 Players of the Week. We are now a good portion into the season now, and we are seeing who the stars of the league are, and who did not live quite up to expectations. There are clear favourites in each division, but there are still a handful of teams who have playoff aspirations that do not currently sit in a playoff spot. Almost every team in the West still has a chance to make the playoffs, so we’ll see which players are going to be able to step up for their teams.
cpenn4204: 6 GP, 15 G, 22 A, 37 P, 6.17 PPG, +22, 5-0-1
Cpenn has an outstanding week, and almost had a perfect week but fell short in an overtime loss. Nonetheless, Cpenn had 15 goals and 22 assists in week 4, which helped him lead all forwards in points for the week. The Dallas Stars currently sit just outside a playoff spot, but if Cpenn can put up numbers like this every week, I can see the former Western Conference champions making it back into the playoffs.
i9i-stamkos-i1ic: 8 GP, 12 G, 22 A, 34 P, 4.25 PPG, +32, 6-2-0
z-Jor-z: 4 GP, 10 G, 15 A, 25 P, 6.25 PPG, +24, 4-0-0
xBeanZy-: 6 GP, 15 G, 12 A, 27 P, 4.50 PPG, +11, 5-1-0
DudNastyy: 8 GP, 5 G, 14 A, 19 P, 2.38 PPG, +32, 6-2-0
The Nashville Predators have continued their dominance this past week, and in large part thanks to DudNasty. Winning his second straight player of the week award, Dud tallied 5 goals and 14 assists for the Predators, helping himself and the team to a 6-2 week. While they do not currently sit first in the whole league, Nashville’s roster and talent definitely make them one of, if not the team to beat. Dud is putting up his case to win the Norris this season as well, so we’ll see how much hardware he can get himself by season’s end.
Fluri37: 4 GP, 1 G, 14 A, 15 P, 3.75 PPG, +16, 4-0-0
Couture53: 6 GP, 2 G, 9 A, 11 P, 1.83 PPG, +16, 6-0-0
rich2k8: 8 GP, 1 G, 10 A, 11 P, 1.38 PPG, +6, 5-2-1
Lach12: 6 GP, 5-1-0, .848 SV%, 1.61 GAA, 1 SO
Currently first in the entire league, the New Jersey Devils sit atop of the mountain at the end of week 4. Lach helped the Devils with a 5-1 record himself, and posted an outstanding .848 save percentage while facing about 11 shots per game. Adding on a shutout to his week, Lach was the best goaltender in week 4. We’ll see if he’ll be able to continue his momentum and help keep the Devils as the ones on top.
