Player of the Week: Week 7
Welcome to the seventh edition of VGHL’s Season 24 Players of the Week. We are nearing the end of the season and are finally in the last stretch of the season. With just one week left on the season, crunch time is now for a lot of teams. Some teams are trying to hold their playoff positions, some teams are trying to get into playoff positions, and others are already just trying to warm up for playoffs. This past week, we have three former player of the week winners from this season already, who seem to be warming up for the playoffs just in time. And maybe they were all from one console again. So, without further ado, let’s find out who won some badges and bragging rights.
Mtl-qc-450-514: 7 GP, 19 G, 18 A, 37 P, 5.29 PPG, +18, 5-2-0
One half of the recently made Carolina duo of star wingers, Mtl-qc earns himself player of the week. Being traded from the Blues to the Hurricanes just as we entered the new year, Mtl-qc has made the Hurricane managers look like geniuses. Pairing him up with Brxndyamour, the two have just lit it up together. With 19 goals and 18 assists for the Hurricanes this week, good enough for a 5-2 record, he earns himself forward of the week. Sitting first place in the Metro, Mtl-qc and the Hurricanes look to get themselves ready for a deep playoff run with both defense and offence working as efficiently as ever.
PerryI10I: 8 GP, 18 G, 22 A, 40 P, 5.00 PPG, +22, 5-3-0
CapitalsFan_08: 8 GP, 15 G, 19 A, 34 P, 4.25 PPG, +30, 7-0-1
Brxndamour: 5 GP, 15 G, 12 A, 27 P, 5.40 PPG, +17, 4-1-0
iamsmokxy-_-: 7 GP, 0 G, 18 A, 18 P, 2.57 PPG, +18, 5-2-0
Smokey earns himself another player of the week, joining his teammate on the player of the week board for week 7. With 18 assists on the week, the Carolina owner was an assist machine this week, setting up his teammates for goals the entire week. Smokey has led his team both on the ice and off the ice this season to a great regular season, but it will all be for not if he can’t get it done in the postseason. We’ll see if the Hurricanes can continue this momentum in the final week heading into the playoffs.
xHyper-27: 6 GP, 1 G, 14 A, 15 P, 2.50 PPG, +9, 3-2-1
ehCrowe: 6 GP, 1 G, 14 A, 15 P, 2.50 PPG, +18, 4-1-1
Vito_Corleone: 8 GP, 0 G, 14 A, 14 P, 1.75 PPG, +30, 7-0-1
parky_8: 4 GP, 4-0-0, .875 SV%, 1.58 GAA, 0 SO
One half of the tremendous goaltending duo for the Sabres so far this season, Parky earns himself goaltender of the week over his teammate and other goaltenders in week 7. With a perfect 4-0 record, a .875 SV% and 1.58 GAA while facing about 12 shots per game, Parky was an immovable object for the Sabres as he has been most of his career. The Sabers are far and away the best team in the league at this point in the season looking at the standings, and their goaltenders and overall team defense is the key to all of it. Will it transition to a deep playoff run? Only time will tell, but they can take solace in the fact that they pretty much have the Presidents trophy locked up. Parky heads into the last week of the season, hoping to add another great week to his Vezina candidate resume, and if he keeps up weeks like this in the playoffs, Buffalo will be in the Stanley Cup finals.
Konzy--: 5 GP, 3-1-1, .857 SV%, 2.09 GAA, 1 SO
xCujo-31: 4 GP, 3-0-1, .852 SV%, 2.14 GAA, 0 SO
Bray4x_Fyb: 8 GP, 6-2-0, .852 SV%, 2.14 GAA, 0 SO
And there you have it folks, your week 7 player of the week winners. Congratulations to Mtl-qc, Smokxy, Parky and all the honorable mentions. PlayStation swept the board again this week, but ultimately, the Eastern Conference dominated the board this week. More specifically, the Hurricanes. While the Buffalo Sabres are the first place team in the league, Carolina has been making moves to put themselves up there with the Sabres and the Habs for the Eastern Conference race. While in the West, it is a dogfight for who will come out the winner there, but no individual player has stood out yet. But, playoffs is when it matters, so just one more week VG and then it’s for all the marbles. Good luck!
