Player of the Week: Week 5
Welcome everyone to the fifth edition of VGHL’s Season 25 Players of the Week. I am back after a week hiatus due to some personal reasons, and now here I am to bring you your week 5 players of the week! But before we get into that, let’s take a quick look at the standings. The Golden Knights and the Blues are both dominating not only the Western Conference, but the entire league. The Knights only have 3 losses the entire season and lead the league in goal differential, while the Blues also only have 3 losses but also an additional overtime loss. On the other side in the Eastern Conference, The Flyers have a huge lead on the second place team in the East which is Tampa Bay, at 80 points themselves and 2nd in the league in goal differential. The Lightning are still in a comfortable spot themselves too though, with a 32-8-4 record which is good enough for 68 points. Why do I mention these 4 teams? Well cause they’ll be huge representatives on this week's player of the week, so without further ado, let’s find out who won themselves some badges.
Forwards:
Chokeyy–: 8 GP, 19 G, 17 A, 36 P, 4.50 PPG, +25, 7-1-0
Arguably the best contract in the league, the $3.5 million player from the Flyers has himself an incredible week, leading all forwards in points. While he didn’t lead in goals or assists, he did a lot of both for his Flyers this week, scoring 19 goals and having 17 helpers for his team. With just 1 blip in his record in week 5, going 7-1, Chokeyy is an integral part of the Flyers offence, doing it all. Sitting extremely comfortably in first in the Eastern Conference, Chokeyy may as well start trying to get his stats up for any individual awards, as his team starts to get ready for a deep playoff run. Chokeyy will be a hard player for anyone to stop, as both his goal scoring ability and passing ability is absolutely incredible.

iZinczyi: 5 GP, 11 G, 14 A, 25 P, 5.00 PPG, +16, 4-1-0
Defence:
Hyperzov: 9 GP, 2 G, 26 A, 28 P, 3.11 PPG, +20, 8-1-0
Being an honorable mention multiple times already this season, Hyper finally gets his first defender of the week badge on the season, with an incredible performance for his Tampa Bay Lightning. The captain of the squad put up an astonishing 28 points on the week with 2 goals and 26 assists, good enough for a 3.11 PPG and an 8-1 record. Leading all defenders in assists, and being 2nd in PPG, Hyper proved that he is a perennial Norris Candidate with his week 5 performance, and definitely made a statement that he should be in the running once again. His Tampa Bay Lightning sit 2nd in the Eastern Conference at the moment and 4th in the league, but have a huge difference to the 3rd place team in their division and the last wildcard spot. Hyper could also start trying to get his stats up, as his team will start preparing for a deep playoff run. Hyper is an incredible player and extremely difficult to stop from the blue line, and this offensive firepower from the blue line can cause a lot of problems in the playoffs for lots of teams.

Goalie:
Jaybird3_: 5 GP, 4-1-0, .896 SV%, 1.40 GAA, 1 SO
The first time I’ve mentioned this player at all this season, but with a huge statement in week 5 for his first time mention, Jaybird3 earns himself goaltender of the week. The entry level contract for the Rangers went 4-1 in the 5 games he played this week, with a .896 SV% and 1.40 GAA. Adding a shutout to his totals while facing about 13 shots per game, Jaybird is starting to catch fire as we head down the home stretch of the season. The Rangers have a 32-12 record, good enough for 64 points and quite a significant gap from the last wildcard team, the Rangers just need a few more good performances like this from Jaybird to solidify their playoff spot.

And there you have it folks, your week 5 player of the week winners. Congratulations to Chokeyy, Hyper, Jaybird and all of the honorable mentions. A lot happened this past week, but one of the only normal things we’ll always have is some player of the week badges being given out. Superstars shined and tried to put their teams into firm playoff positions, and now some of those superstars are trying to just build their season resume for individual awards.
