Player of the Week: Week 6
Welcome everyone to the sixth edition of VGHL’s Season 25 Players of the Week. It’s a new week, but the same old me, bringing you 3 players again earning themselves player of the week badges. We got some new names appearing on the list and potentially earning themselves their first badges of the season, but we also got some names that I have mentioned before already this season. We’re hitting the last stretch of the season now, and the top 4 teams I mentioned last week (Blues, Knights, Flyers and Lightning) all remain as the top 4 teams in the league, but not all of those teams will have players winning player of the week awards this week. Whether that means they’re slowing down and relaxing for playoffs, or if they hit their hot streak at the wrong time remains to be seen. My thoughts? They’re just relaxing and cruising until it really matters, and I wouldn’t be worried about any 4 of these teams. But, new players did step up this week, so without further ado, let’s find out who the new players are, and who the aforementioned name is.
Forwards:
X Kozak 12: 9 GP, 19 G, 20 A, 39 P, 4.33 PPG, +16, 8-1-0
Having an almost perfect week, going 8-1 for his team, Kozak led all forwards in goals, assists and points this week, with 19 goals, 20 assists and 39 points, good enough for a 4.33 PPG pace. The Seattle Kraken currently hold the first wildcard spot in the West, and have just a 4 point lead on the Minnesota Wild, who are just outside a wildcard spot. The Owner of the Kraken led by example for his team to try to solidify a playoff position, and will need more performances like these in the last 2 weeks to claim a playoff spot. Getting hot at this point of the season though is a great thing to see, as going hot into the playoffs can lead to a deep, unexpected playoff run. The Xbox owner will look to replicate his performance and lead by example, so he can make that unexpected playoff run dream a reality.
Honorable Mentions
LeCupidon: 8 GP, 14 G, 18 A, 32 P, 4.00 PPG, +16, 5-1-2
Frxnch-Kuchxrov: 6 GP, 17 G, 12 A, 29 P, 4.83 PPG, +14, 4-2-0
Justn I87I: 5 GP, 14 G, 10 A, 24 P, 4.80 PPG, +16, 4-0-1
Defence:
Hyperzov: 7 GP, 2 G, 17 A, 19 P, 2.71 PPG, +16, 5-1-1
Earning his second straight defender of the week award, Hyperzov proved yet again that offense from the blue line can come at any time from him. Leading all defensemen in both assists and points, and being 2nd in points per game (1st among defenders above 4 GP on the week), Hyper is adding yet again another impressive week to his potential Norris resume. The only player of the top 4 teams in the league earning a player of the week badge this week, Hyper shows no signs of slowing down and is ready to add to not only his individual hardware case, but also go on a deep playoff run for his Tampa Bay Lightning. The captain has led by example all season, and if teams don’t figure out how to stop him soon, he may be laughing his way all the way to the finals, and representing the Eastern Conference in the Stanley Cup.
Honorable Mentions
UhadMeAtHalo86: 9 GP, 1 G, 13 A, 14 P, 1.56 PPG, +16, 6-3-0
I SK1PP I: 6 GP, 1 G, 12 A, 13 P, 2.17 PPG, +16, 5-1-0
xShxyne: 6 GP, 2 G, 10 A, 12 P, 2.00 PPG, +4, 4-2-0
Goalie:
ITzCONNI3: 5 GP, 4-1-0, .873 SV%, 2.09 GAA, 1 SO
The Anaheim Ducks sit currently 7 points out of the last wildcard spot, but their starting goaltender had an incredible week themselves to try to push them into the final playoff spot. ITzCONNI had an incredible week, going 4-1 with a .873 SV%, which led all goaltenders with above 4 games played, as well as having a 2.09 GAA and adding a shutout to their statline as well. Facing about 15.8 shots per game, CONNI basically stopped everything for the Anaheim Ducks this week, and gave them a chance in every game they played. If more ice time is possible for CONNI and they can keep up this hot streak, look out for the Ducks to potentially make a last ditch effort to steal the last playoff spot in the West.
Honorable Mention:
Irshlitening: 4 GP, 4-0-0, .860 SV%, 1.75 GAA, 0 SO
X-Stud-Muffin: 7 GP, 4-2-1, .841 SV%, 2.84 GAA, 0 SO
iiNFiiD3L: 6 GP, 5-1-0, .837 SV%, 2.33 GAA, 3 SO
And there you have it folks, your week 6 player of the week winners. Congratulations to Kozak, Hyper, Conni3 and all of the honorable mentions. 2 new players earned themselves some badges this week, while Hyper continued his dominance at defense. We’re at a point of the season where some players are just stat padding for their individual accolades at the end of the season, and others are trying to solidify close playoff spots or are trying to grab the last playoff spot. We got a little bit of everything on the player of the week award list this week, and with 2 weeks remaining, we’ll see if we’ll get a little bit of everything going forward. So, with that being said, good luck to all in week 7, and see you next week.
